About Us
Insite Software Solutions was started in 1985 by Lew Hicks. Lew is a veteran of the machine shop world, having made add-in numeric controllers for the machining industry. He was joined a few years later by Kim Mosher. Kim's background in the integrated circuit industry and custom printed circuit board business gives him a thorough understanding of what it is like to manage a job shop.
In 1985 Insite Software, with its DOS ShopKeeper Software Program began working with job shops in the Silicon Valley. Over the next 12 years this package was refined and customized to meet the specific needs of each of our customers. While many of our customers were content with the original package, quite a few began to outgrow the basic features and wanted advanced features that were tailored to their specific needs. The result was a network of customers who had exactly the software they needed but who had to be supported and upgraded on a case-by-case basis, with new standard features literally hand coded at their shops into their existing code base.
In 1997, with Y2K looming in the not-so-distant future and Windows inevitable, it became evident that ShopKeeper was becoming obsolete. We, along with some of our customers, began looking for a replacement for our old code. Many of our customers looked at the competing software packages but realized that none provided the list of features AND ease of use that came with ShopKeeper. Because of this, in mid 1997 the decision was made to completely re-write the existing system for Windows and incorporate all of the features we had customized over the years into one, universal, easy to maintain package. Advanced ShopKeeper was born!
As we began working with our individual customers we started to realize just how much work we had done over the past decade to provide them with the custom features they needed - and were no longer willing to live without! It took thousands of hours of painstaking effort, but working closely with our customers we have been able to create a single code base that, with the use of options and switches, satisfies the needs of all of our customers. We were also able to add many long desired refinements that were simply not possible with the old DOS based application.
Recently, we have begun to expand the reach and scope of our operation to allow for widespread distribution of the Advanced ShopKeeper software package, along with top-notch training and technical support. We are also engineering two new packages based on Advanced ShopKeeper; a larger SQL Server based system that is scaleable to be utilized in the largest of job shops, and an entry-level software package for very small shops.
But through this expansion it is our intention to maintain our dedication to personal service, which we think makes us unique in the software industry.
Insite Software Solutions, Inc. and our ShopKeeper series of software packages are sure to become a major force in the job shop software industry.
